What is karaoke?
The term karaoke is derived from two Japanese words: "kara", which means empty, and "okesutora", which means orchestra. Originally, karaoke singers would listen to recorded orchestra music and sing along. Eventually, karaoke became a much sought-after form of entertainment.

The first karaoke machine was designed in Japan in the 1970s, by Japanese drummer Daisuke Inone. Inone's friends asked him to provide recorded music so they could sing along; in response, Inone created a karaoke machine.

Karaoke is popular in many countries around the world today. In almost every city in the United States, karaoke venues flourish!

How do you manage the singer rotation?
The ICON rotation is first come, first serve; no cutting or calling ahead is allowed. Once a rotation is established, new singers are added, after every other singer. Be sure to submit a singer request slip early for each song you want to sing, prior to the beginning of each new rotation.

Will you play singer CDG's?
ICON does not play singer CDG’s due to the unknown origin of the files and to the time sensitivity of singer satisfaction during a show.

What is karaoke etiquette?
The suggested karaoke etiquette is to pay attention to all singers and enjoy the music. The courage and effort of all singers should be met with crowd participation and applause!
